Sending system logs to E-mail
Content
Introduction
Logs, sensor data, elements settings, etc. can be sent to a specified e-mail address. Data files are first compressed (in Gzip format, with the extension *.gz) and stored on the device in the archive file (in TAR format), and after the specified period (in 00:00 by device time), the archive file is sent to the specified e-mail addresses (up to 10 addresses). It can take up to several minutes to upload files, so there may be a loss of recent data when your system restarts. Keep this in mind when organizing the storage of backup information.
When creating a log archive, files from the media (SD Card or USB Flash, with priority on SD Card) are used. Therefore, to send the log by E-mail, you must enable logging to the media.
Manage E-mail log
To manage the e-mail go to the tab: Preferences >> Logging >> Mail Log.
Through this tab, the user can control the parameters:
Status - reflects the status of the last transaction;
Enable logging - enables and disables the function of sending the log archive to the mail;
Save video files - enables and disables the function of saving video records;
Enable detailed logging - enables and disables the recording of the per-second values of the selected sensors;
Enable supervisor logging - enables and disables tracking user actions like time of opening and closing a user session, changing system settings by the user;
SMTP server - the path to the outgoing mail server;
Port - the port of the outgoing mail server;
Enable TLS - if TLS SMTP is enabled, the session is opened inside the encrypted connection (typical port 465);
Enable STARTTLS - when STARTTLS is enabled, the encrypted connection is opened inside the SMTP session (a typical port 587, but can be 25, 2525, or another);
Login - user name, can be empty;
Password - The user password can be empty;
Mail from - sender address;
Mail to - The recipient addresses, a comma-separated list of up to 10 items, semicolon, or space.
Buttons at the bottom of the panel provide:
Refresh - update tab data;
Save - the preservation and use of the logging options;
Send - send the current archive data to the e-mail, if available.
It can take up to a few minutes to send files to your email. To avoid data loss, do not reboot the device.
The archive file comes in a mail notification as an attachment. The TAR format is used to form the archive, the data files themselves are in compressed form in Gzip format. The name of the archive file contains the type and name of the device (if the name is set by default, the device's IP address is used) and the time of sending the file to the mail, for example, VT825-srvroom_Wed_Jun_14_15-40-47_2017.log.tar
