Usage

The VT740 module supports receiving and sending SMS messages via 2G and 3G networks, as well as providing Ethernet connectivity over LTE (4G). It ensures continuous communication by sending notifications over various channels like Ethernet, SMS, and SNMP. One of its critical functions is providing network redundancy; if the LAN connection fails, the module automatically switches to LTE 4G to maintain the Ethernet connection.

The VT740 can be integrated into Vutlan monitoring systems, including VT335t, VT336t, VT825t, VT855t, and VT960t. Additionally, it features an embedded power cycling function, allowing remote rebooting of connected devices.

This module is ideal for network backup and ensuring communication reliability in mission-critical environments.

The same PCB of VT740 is used for i and t series (e.g. VT335i and VT335t). But The metal enclosures use a different metal panel for holding the modem. t series have an additional screw to hold the panel. Thus the installation is slightly different. But in all other regards, it is the same.

Panel

  1. "Main antenna" - Connector, used when the modem is installed inside of the appliance to connect the LTE main antenna. ( The main antenna is supplied together with the modem).

  2. "SIM card" - SIM card slot with an injector.

  3. "Status" - displays modem status. Blinking = working.

  4. "Auxiliary" - Connector, used when the modem is installed inside of the appliance to connect LTE auxiliary antenna. The additional antenna helps to strengthen the signal level. ( Auxiliary LTE antenna is supplied together with the modem).

Installation

You can install the modem while the system is turned On. You may wait up to 3 minutes until the Telecom operator information is renewed.

Step 1

Unscrew the M3 screw from the LTE metal panel.

Step 2

Use the wire cutter tool to cut off the metal inserts.

You can dispose of the metal inserts.

Step 3

Plug the VT740 slot modem as shown on the picture into the opening. The board should slide into the guide rails (marked as “1”) and plug into the jack (marked as “2”).

Step 4

Put the LTE metal panel back in (marked as “1”).

Screw the M3 screw back in fixating the LTE metal panel (marked as “2”).

Step 5

Screw the main LTE antenna into “Main” antenna” jack.

If you want to strengthen the signal, you can screw in the second auxiliary antenna into “Auxiliary” jack.

Step 6

Plug in the micro SIM card. The SIM card slot has an injector.

Step 7

You are ready to go! Turn on the system.

You can install the modem while the system is turned On. You may wait up to 3 minutes until the Telecom operator information is renewed.

IMEI number

The International Mobile Equipment Identity number is a unique identifier assigned to LTE modems and other cellular devices. Uniquely identifies the LTE modem on the cellular network. It allows mobile operators to verify the type of device and its compatibility with the network.

The IMEI will show in the Vutlan web interface only after you insert the SIM card in the modem and wait for the information to update (up to 5 minutes).

The modem is inserted. A SIM card is inserted. IMEI is not showing up. What to do?

  • Ensure the SIM card is inserted correctly, and the modem is powered on.

  • Open the Vutlan system's interface and navigate to the modem settings or device information section.

  • Locate the IMEI number physically printed on the modem itself.

  • Copy the IMEI number and provide it to your Telecom provider, requesting them to register the device on their network.
