Function and purpose

The VT12 Relay Module is a compact dual-channel power and switching unit designed for controlling any 12V DC devices up to 1A per output. With integrated relays and dry contact inputs, the module offers reliable switching and power delivery in a wide range of automation and control applications.

Main Functions:

  • Dual Independent Outputs (A and B): Each output provides:

    • 12V DC Power

    • Relay-Switched Line

    • Ground (GND)

  • Dry Contact Inputs (A and B): Trigger relays using external dry contacts such as switches, sensors, access systems, or automation controllers.

  • Safe and Isolated Switching: Internal relays ensure safe operation and electrical isolation between control signals and powered devices.

The VT12 Relay Module is built to:

  • Power and switch 12V DC devices, such as electronic locks, LEDs, solenoids, fans, alarms, or relays.

  • Integrate with access control, automation, and security systems via dry contact triggers.

  • Simplify low-voltage wiring and control, replacing the need for separate relays or power modules.

  • Support two independent channels, allowing control of multiple devices from a single unit.

Its versatility makes it ideal for use in security systems, building automation, smart home setups, and industrial control panels.

Compatible Vutlan systems

VT855t and VT336t both have dry contact outputs and are compatible with VT12 Relay Module I/O.

Use cases

1. Dual Electronic Lock Control (Access Systems)

  • Controls two independent 12V DC electronic locks.

  • Relays are triggered via dry contact inputs from keypads, RFID readers, or access control panels.

2. Smart Home Automation

  • Powers and switches 12V devices like LED strips, irrigation valves, or fans.

  • Controlled by smart relays, sensors, or home automation hubs with dry contact output.

3. Alarm and Notification Systems

  • Triggers alarms, sirens, or 12V warning lights when a sensor (motion, door, gas, etc.) closes a dry contact.

4. Cabinet or Rack Control in IT & Telecom

  • Powers 12V fans, locks, or status lights inside server racks or secure enclosures.

5. Industrial or Commercial Equipment Switching

  • Used to switch 12V pumps, solenoids, or actuators in automation setups.

  • External buttons or relay controllers close the dry contacts to activate connected devices.

6. Emergency or Safety System Override

  • Dry contact from an emergency button triggers a connected device (e.g., unlocks the door, powers the emergency light, activates the signal).

Safety instructions

Carefully READ and FOLLOW the safety precautions outlined below BEFORE working with the VT12 Relay Module.

  • Only qualified electrical workers should install this equipment. Such work should be performed only after reading this entire set of instructions.

  • Before performing visual inspections, tests, or maintenance on this equipment, disconnect all sources of electric power. Assume that all circuits are live until they have been completely de-energized, tested, and tagged. Pay particular attention to the design of the power system. Consider all sources of power, including the possibility of backfeeding.

  • Turn off all power supplying the voltmeter and the equipment in which it is installed before working on it.

  • Always use a properly rated voltage-sensing device to confirm that all power is off.

  • Apply appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safe electrical work practices. In the USA, see NFPA 70E

  • Before closing all covers and doors, carefully inspect the work area for tools and objects that may have been left inside the equipment.

  • Use caution while removing or installing panels so that they do not extend into the energized bus; avoid handling the panels, which could cause personal injury.

  • The successful operation of this equipment depends upon proper handling, installation, and operation. Neglecting fundamental installation requirements may lead to personal injury as well as damage to electrical equipment or other property.

  • The power meter should be installed in a suitable electrical and fire enclosure.
