Connecting Modbus TCP/IP meters/devices/sensors

All Vutlan monitoring systems now support Modbus TCP/IP read & write from August 2021. Please download the latest drivers for your Vutlan monitoring system.

Connecting Modbus TCP/IP device

  1. Make sure that the Modbus TCP/IP device is located on the same local area network.

  2. Connect the monitoring system to the network switch or a router using an Ethernet cable using a LAN port.

  3. Follow the Creating Virtual Modbus TCP element article to find out how to add Modbus TCP/IP elements into the Vutlan interface.

About Modbus TCP/IP

This industrial protocol has become a de facto standard communication protocol since its inception in 1979 and now is considered the industry standard for connecting industrial electronic devices.

Modbus enables communication among many devices connected to the same network, for example, a system that measures temperature and humidity and communicates the results to a computer.

We would like to outline three main areas where this functionality will help solutions of our partners:

  • To periodically read from or write information to Modbus devices, that are connected to the Vutlan monitoring unit via Modbus TCP/IP.

  • To configure alarms that will trigger preconfigured actions such as sending SMS, activating specific digital/relay outputs on the Vutlan monitoring unit, or sending Modbus requests to Modbus devices when alarm conditions are met (for example specific client device register value falls below-configured alarm value).

We are always paying close attention to the feedback of our partners and we are certain that this new functionality will strengthen our position in the monitoring and control field even more.
