Function and purpose
Unique long-term stability
Advanced particle size binning
Superior precision in mass concentration and number concentration sensing
VT580 dust particle sensor is used to monitor air quality and pollution. The sensor is a technological breakthrough in particle matter sensors. Its measurement principle is based on laser scattering and based on innovative contamination-resistance technology. The probe enables precise measurements from its first operation and throughout its lifetime of more than ten years.
VT580 is an analog sensor and it can be connected to any analog port (A1...A8) of the Vutlan monitoring unit. The sensor is plug-and-play and can be configured for event-triggering via logic schemes.
The maximum amount of VT580 sensors connected to the Vutlan monitoring unit and maximum length can be extended using the "VT408 / Sensor extension unit" or “VT408DIN / Extension unit”.
Use cases
The VT580 Dust Particle Sensor has a variety of use cases due to its ability to measure air quality and particulate matter with high precision. Here are some practical applications:
Data Centers and IT Facilities: The VT580 sensor can monitor air quality and pollution levels to protect sensitive electronics from dust and airborne particles, helping to prevent equipment failure and prolong operational lifespan.
Industrial Environments: In manufacturing or production areas where air quality is critical for processes or worker safety, the sensor can be used to monitor and regulate particulate matter in the environment.
Clean Rooms and Laboratories: For environments that require strict air quality control, such as pharmaceutical manufacturing or scientific research, the VT580 can ensure compliance with air quality standards by detecting particulate matter that could contaminate sensitive processes.
Building Management Systems (BMS): VT580 can be integrated into building management systems to monitor air quality in office spaces, commercial buildings, or smart homes, helping to maintain a healthy indoor environment.
Environmental Monitoring: Used in environmental protection agencies or smart city initiatives to measure and report pollution levels, the sensor can aid in air quality monitoring and public health initiatives.
HVAC Systems: The sensor can be connected to HVAC systems to monitor and adjust airflow in response to particulate levels, improving air quality in indoor environments.
Healthcare Facilities: Ensures that clean air standards are met in hospitals or clinics, where airborne contaminants can be a risk to patients.
These use cases highlight the VT580's versatility across industries where air quality monitoring is essential.
Connecting the sensor
The sensor can be connected to the system's available analog ports. See the picture below.
Multiple VT580 sensors can be connected to the Vutlan monitoring system using the “VT408 / Extension unit”. See the picture below.
The sensor can also be connected to the “VT408DIN / Extension unit”.

Technology
'VT580 Dust Particle sensor' sensors are optical particle counters (OPCs) based on laser scattering. All OPCs guide ambient, suspended particles to a measurement cell inside the device. The measurement cell consists of a light source (e.g., a laser) and a photodetector. Due to the interaction of particles and light, part of the incoming light is scattered towards the nearby photodetector. The collected signal is converted into real-time particle count and mass concentration values, respectively given in #/cm3 and in μg/m3.
